Animal Project

ANIMAL PROJECT:

For most of us, animals are a part of our lives. Whether you enjoy reading about them, watching tv shows about them, going to the zoo, or living with them you know they can be amazing creatures.  As you have been studying food chains and webs you know that animals are important to the cycle. The world is filled with many different animals throughout the world. You are about to go on a journey of discovery about one animal. Think about all the things you want to know about one type of animal.

Task

National Geographic Kids has contacted me about up-coming episodes that they want to show.   They have decided to use our class to decide their fall line-up.  Each student will be responsible for researching one animal and presenting the information in an interesting manner to the show's producer.   The producers of NGK will choose one animal a week to do a show on.  Your research will determine which animal the producers will use

Process

First you need to choose an animal
  • Go to the library and find a book on animal
  • Make sure the book has information you can understand
  • You will be using the book in reading and in the library

After choosing the book, you need to start the research. You have six questions you need to answer about your animal.

  • What does it look like?
  • What does it eat?
  • Where does it live?
  • How does it protect itself?
  • How does it raise its babies?
  • What are five more interesting facts?

After answering the questions, remember to fill out the bibliography part. Where did you find the information to answer the questions? You need to cite your sources.

You will write a rough draft of your answers for your classroom teacher. After your teacher has given you the ok, you will write a final draft that will be used to inform the producers about your animal.

Some students will want to use Keynote, imovie, or Glogster  to share the information to the producers, check with your teacher.
